High scores highlight archery regional tournaments

LITTLE ROCK – Impressive team and individual scores highlighted a Saturday of statewide regional competition of the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program, sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Lou Gabric, owner of Hummingbird Hideaway Resort on Norfork Lake, displays two of the five stripers he hooked late Sunday morning on the lake, keeping three. He says the on-again, off-again striper bite has not been typical of the lake this year. He found these stripers just 5-20 feet down in 100-plus feet of water. "I do spend quite a bite of time looking around for striped bass, but when you find them you will have a blast," he says.

An enormous number of snows, blues and Ross's geese were seen in a field in Arkansas County not far from Brett Morgan Halowell Reservoir last week. The Light Goose Conservation Order for hunting these geese is in effect through Feb. 7 and from Feb. 9-April 25 throughout Arkansas.
