Mike and Florence Galloway of Kansas caught a nice limit of striper Tuesday morning with guide Mike Bailey on Beaver Lake. Bailey says that Mike Galloway is a disabled Navy veteran and avid angler that caught striper fever a few years ago. Mike and Florence make their way down to Beaver several times each year to chase their favorite fish, Bailey adds. There were all done by 7 a.m., he says. Photo by Mike Bailey.

There are a lot of ways to fish in Arkansas, and a lot of ways in this case to land a catfish. These men used noddling to catch three blue cats this week at Cane Creek Lake, the largest blue (on the right) weighing 56 pounds. According to Austin Davidson, park interpreter at Cane Creek State Park, they sink tractor tires with plywood fastened to the top and a hole cut on the side to create artificial catfish beds. They sink the beds in key catfish habitat along the lake levee and the shoreline at 4.5 to 5 feet depth.

This 27-inch German Brown trout was caught above Cotter on the Bull Shoals Lake tailwater this past week by a 13-year-old. That's some feat, and it turned out it wasn't even the biggest fish grabbed in that area. An Instagram photo circulated of a 34-inch brown caught and released as well. Fishing for all species is good around the state, perfect for a long weekend.
