LITTLE ROCK — The Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center is hosting a free food plot and habitat management workshop from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 27 for individuals who want to get the most out of their deer management efforts.

Leftover WMA deer hunting permits available July 26

LITTLE ROCK – Nearly 600 leftover WMA deer hunt permits for Arkansas wildlife management areas will be available for purchase beginning 8 a.m. July 26. These permits cover youth, modern gun, muzzleloader and mobility-impaired hunts that did not have enough applicants for the amount of permits available for the hunt during the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s annual WMA deer permit drawing earlier this month.

In this month's webinar, Eric Brinkman, Assistant Chief of Aquatic Conservation, will present "Movements and Macrohabitat Use of Alligator Gar in Relation to a Low Head Lock and Dam System" and Dr. Jennifer Ballard, State Wildlife Veterinarian and Assistant Chief of the Research Division, will present "Arkansas Hunters' Perceptions of Chronic Wasting Disease Management".

Additional CWD not detected in Union County

STRONG – After a hunter-harvested white-tailed deer taken in Union County tested positive for chronic wasting disease in December, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has confirmed that no additional sampled deer had been detected with the disease.

AGFC and USFWS to evaluate deer disease in south Arkansas

STRONG — In response to the recent detection of a deer with chronic wasting disease in Union County, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA APHIS Wildlife Services will conduct a sampling effort on Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge during the next week to further understand the prevalence of the disease in south Arkansas.
