Fisheries professionals focus on shorebound angling access

LITTLE ROCK - Fishing automatically conjures images of days spent on the boat, but according to a survey conducted for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, 47 percent of Arkansas anglers fish from the bank. And the AGFC is tackling shoreline access with renewed fervor as a result.

HOT SPRINGS - Fifty-six of the best bass anglers in the world will be showing off their catch and talking to huge crowds at this weekend’s Forrest Wood Cup in Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs, but biologists and tournament officials will be scrambling to take care of the true stars of the show, the largemouth and spotted bass to be displayed during the event’s weigh-ins at 5 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

LITTLE ROCK - One of the best ways to beat the heat of summer for a camping/fishing combination is a trip to the cool tailwaters formed by Norfork, Bull Shoals and Greers Ferry Lakes. The dams forming these Corps of Engineers impoundments release cold water from the bottom of the water column. That rush of cold water can chase away the stifling heat, offering a brief respite from the summer sun.

Lake Conway sees Florida bass boost

MAYFLOWER - Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir in Mayflower received a shot in the bass fishing arm last week, as biologists released more than 150,000 Florida-strain largemouth bass fingerlings into the lake via a special nursery pond on Camp Robinson Special Use Area. This was the tenth stocking of Florida-strain largemouths at Conway in as many years.
